Eris's World

I was just thinking, where in the timeline is Eris's world? The others are pretty close to the ATLA era, but Eris nor Kin has made any mention of it, so I was wondering if we should shake things up and do something really crazy, take advantage of these alternate worlds.

What if Avatar Kin replaces Roku as the Fire Nation Avatar? And the Air Nomads are alive and well? It's possible that Avatar Kin's devotion to the world could even avert the Hundred Year War -if, of course, that was even threatening this timeline. I don't know how different you want to make it, but just by replacing Kin with Roku, it could be very interesting...

Interesting idea... Though I wouldn't go with the "replaces Roku" option. Why not make Kin the unnamed fire Avatar? That's at a time the Hundred Year War hasn't happened yet and all the Air Nomads are still alive. There would be dragons all around and everything else the members of Team Vortex are missing in their own world.

I think that Kin should be an Avatar from the past, but I don't see the need to specify when in the timeline he's from unless we absolutely need it for some plot twist in the future. I think that it would make more sense to have him and Eris exist pre-ATLA than post-Korra with Republic City and post-HYW technology. But if he's the Avatar following Kyoshi, he's still alive long before the other characters are in the ATLA-centered timeline. Even if he's the unnamed fire Avatar, specifying a spot for him might make the reader want us to answer more questions, like whether Avatar Kin is the fire Avatar before Yangchen in all the worlds, and what happened to Kin and Sakura/Eris in Ursa/Yun/Yuhan/Ling/Kaddo's worlds, since as far as we know, the Avatars seem similar in all the other worlds.

It just seems like it would make things more complicated, unless the plot could benefit from it somehow, which I'm not seeing at the moment.

That's a good point. Unless we do want some of those questions/answers to come into the story, we might benefit not specifying. However, I think it's a good idea for us writers to know whereabouts it is, so we can reflect it in the story, if not actually go into it. Like, don't have Eris talk about Republic City if it's before Aang, etc.

Well, it would be before Aang if it's pre-HYW. It doesn't really make a difference to me between whether it's the fire Avatar before Roku, the second fire Avatar before Roku or the third fire Avatar before Roku.
